Landscaping in the Dandenong Ranges & Hills
Hills properties are beautiful, and they come with challenges: steep slopes, clay and rock, lots of rain run-off and tricky access. Stoney Creek Landscaping builds outdoor spaces that work with the land, not against it. We service Emerald, Cockatoo, Gembrook, Upper Beaconsfield, Belgrave, Monbulk and the rest of the Dandenong Ranges.

Landscaping built for Hills blocks
Retaining walls and terracing
Turn a slope you can't use into flat, usable levels: lawn, veggie beds, a deck or an entertaining area. We build in timber, concrete sleeper, block and rock, with drainage behind every wall. More about retaining walls →
Drainage and run-off
Heavy rain on a sloping block can wash out paths and garden beds. We'll plan drainage into your landscaping from the start, or fix drainage on its own: ag pipe, gravel trenches and pits.
Excavation and site levelling
We handle the excavation as part of the job, and take away excess soil, rubbish and green waste. We'll check access when we visit and plan the job around it. We can also pour concrete slabs for sheds and outdoor areas.
Paths, steps and paving
Safe, non-slip steps and paths so you can get around a sloping block in all weather, in stone, block, pavers or concrete.
Decks and outdoor structures
Timber and composite decks are a great way to create flat outdoor space on a slope without huge amounts of digging.
Planting and gardens
Garden beds, mulching, planting and irrigation that suit the Hills climate.

Good to know: bushfire overlays
Many Hills properties are in a Bushfire Management Overlay (BMO), which can affect building and vegetation near the house. You can check your property's overlays with a free VicPlan property report, and the CFA's free "Landscaping for Bushfire" guide has good advice on plant placement and mulch. We don't do bushfire assessments or bushfire-rated construction, so check any specific requirements with your council or building surveyor.
Recent Hills projects
- Sleeper retaining walls, Lysterfield and Lysterfield South. Recycled railway sleeper walls with boulders, river pebbles and a brick paver path.
- Drainage fix, Rowville. Water was pooling at the base of a timber sleeper wall. We put in an ag-pipe trench with geofabric and scoria, a new drainage pit and a river-pebble finish.
What our customers say
FAQ
Can you work on really steep blocks? Yes. Sloping blocks are a big part of Hills landscaping, and terracing with retaining walls is one of our main services. We'll check access when we visit and plan the job around it.
My backyard turns to mud every winter. Can you help? Usually, yes. It's normally a drainage and levels problem. We'll look at where the water's coming from and suggest options like drainage, retaining and better surfaces.
Do you charge to quote in the Hills? No. On-site consultations are free.
How soon can you start? We're often booked a month or two ahead, so it pays to get in touch early. We'll give you a timeframe for the job with your quote.
