Paving, Paths & Steps in South-East Melbourne and the Hills
Good paving is all in the base and the falls. Get those right, and it stays flat, drains properly and doesn't crack or sink a few winters down the track.
We're Stoney Creek Landscaping, based in Upper Beaconsfield. We lay paving across south-east Melbourne and the Hills, on its own or as part of a full landscape package.

Stone pavers we lay
We source our pavers through our main supplier, Slate Discounts. Their range is all natural stone, so there's plenty to choose from:
- Bluestone: Harkaway, European and Chinese bluestone pavers, plus French pattern, crazy paving, steppers, cobblestones and pool coping
- Travertine: Ivory, Silver, Noce, Antique, Tuscan and Linen travertine, as pavers, French pattern, crazy paving, stepping stones and pool coping
- Limestone: Shell White, Capri White, Caliza, Pearl Grey, Tundra Grey and Marrakesh, including sandblasted finishes, French pattern, crazy paving, stepping stones and pool coping
- Granite: Raven Grey, Dove White, Midnight Black, Smokey Quartz and Summer Gold pavers, plus stepping stones, cobblestones and pool coping
- Sandstone: Himalayan and Buff sandstone pavers, crazy paving, stepping stones and pool coping
- Marble: Pearl Grey and Tundra Grey marble pavers and French pattern, plus crazy paving
- Slate: Kakadu and Indian slate pavers, plus slate crazy paving
- Quartzite and cobblestones: Golden Quartz, Rio Gold and Adelaide Gold crazy paving, plus granite, quartz and porphyry cobblestones
We'll go through the options with you when we have a look. Some stone suits a pool surround better, and some suits a path or a courtyard better.

How we lay paving that stays flat
- Have a look. We check the levels, drainage and access, and where the water needs to go.
- Dig out. We excavate to the right depth for the base and the paving.
- Crushed rock base. Laid in layers and compacted properly. This is the part that stops paving sinking.
- Bedding. Screeded flat, ready for the paving.
- Lay with falls. Each piece is laid with a gentle fall away from the house so water runs off instead of pooling against the walls.
- Edges and joints. An edge restraint holds everything in place, then the joints are filled.
- Clean-up. We take the excess soil away and leave it tidy.
Puddles, sunken spots and cracked paving nearly always come back to a poor base or no falls. Most of that work gets covered up, but it's what makes the difference.
Paving with drainage and levels sorted
On sloping or soggy blocks, paving often goes hand in hand with walls and drainage. A retaining wall or rock wall can create the level area to pave, and excavation gets the ground ready. Drainage keeps water off the paving and away from the house, like the trench, ag pipe and pit we put in for a drainage job in Rowville.

Paving as part of a full landscape package
Paving is often the centre of a bigger job. A full landscape package brings it together with turf and garden makeovers, decking, retaining walls, drainage, and concreting and excavation, all planned and built by one crew. On one job, we poured a slab and finished it by barrow, ready for paving to go on top.
